Product Use & Care

"Ice retention" is the product's "level of cooling" measured in how many days it can retain ice. This is tested in controlled laboratory conditions by filling a cooler with a fixed amount of ice, closing the lid, and placing it in a 32°C oven to simulate a warm outdoor environment. The cooler's ice retention level is the amount of time (measured in days) that it takes for the ice to reach 4°C and begin to melt.

The way you use your cooler and the conditions you're in often vary, so the actual cooler performance may be different from our lab results.

An electric cooler actively cools using power, while a passive cooler keeps drinks and food cold without electricity through insulation and ice or ice packs. For car use, camping, and more precise temperature control, an electric cooler is often the better choice; for picnics, the beach, and day trips without power, a passive cooler is especially practical.

If you mainly want simple cooling on the go, a thermoelectric cooler is a good option. If you need precise temperature control, more power, or even freezing without ice, a compressor cooler is the stronger solution. Igloo’s ICF Electric Coolers can be set from -18 °C to 20 °C.

Yes. According to the manufacturer, Igloo ICF Electric Coolers can be operated with 12/24V DC in a vehicle or with 100–240V AC on mains power. Igloo also mentions an integrated 3-stage battery protection system that switches off the unit before the car battery is too heavily discharged.

An Igloo compressor cooler from the ICF series can be set down to -18 °C. The upper range goes up to 20 °C, so you can either cool or deep-freeze depending on your needs.

Not necessarily. The ICF Electric Coolers operate at around 43 to 45 dB depending on the model, roughly the level of light rain or a quiet office. This is generally suitable for everyday camping and vehicle use.

This mainly depends on external temperature, shade, how often it’s opened, and preparation. We recommend pre-chilling both the contents and the cooler, using large frozen ice blocks, keeping the cooler in the shade, and opening it as infrequently as possible.

For lunch, office use, short trips, and easy carrying, a cooler bag or cooler backpack is usually the better choice. If you need more capacity, a sturdier build, and longer cooling performance for camping, beach days, or garden parties, a hard cooler is more suitable.

A cooler bag is ideal for lunch, commuting, picnics, and short trips because it is lighter and more flexible to carry. A cooler backpack is better if you want both hands free, and a larger insulated cooler bag works especially well for the beach, car trips, or family outings.

For longer cooling performance, pre-chill food and drinks as well as the cooler itself, use large frozen ice blocks instead of crushed ice, and keep the cooler in the shade. It’s also important to open it as rarely as possible and close it securely after each use.

Hard coolers are best cleaned with water and mild detergent; tougher stains can be treated with diluted baking soda and water. Cooler bags should not be machine-washed but cleaned spot-wise with mild detergent and water, as machine washing can damage the sealed seams.
